Amino Acid for Sport: Why are amino acids necessary for sports?
Did you know that our body consists 20 % of protein, of which are our skin, muscles, etc. During sports, our muscle proteins are broken down and important amino acids in the body are then used for muscle recovery.
When we eat protein-rich food such as meat, eggs, or milk, the protein is not readily absorbed but instead it must be enzymatically digested from the macromolecules to the smallest molecules for the body to absorb, which they are called amino acids.
The process takes 3-4 hours for protein digestion and assimilation of amino acids, which in turn, amino acid can be consumed directly and can be absorbed by the body in 30 minutes without processing in any way.
Even if too much amino acid is ingestion, it is harmless because they are excreted in the urine as urea during metabolism, just like for normal protein intake.
Amino acids have been used for many years both in food industry as seasoning, and in medicine as a dietary supplement with amino acids to directly add value to the body and in sports as well.
Especially for sports, it is necessary for the intake of Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) because they are rich in essential amino acids that help enhance exercise efficiency.
BCAAs or branched chain amino acids that athletes need
Valine, leucine, and isoleucine in branched chain amino acids, or BCAAs, are essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesize on its own but can be obtained through diet which helps to enhance performance of exercise as follows
- Promotes muscle protein synthesis
- Inhibits muscle breakdown
- Reduce muscle damage
- Reduce muscle fatigue and muscle pain
It is a good source of energy during exercise.
